BIOGRAPHY

Iván López began his violin studies at P. Antonio Soler Conservatory (El Escorial) with Fernando Ríus and Polina Kotliarskaya. In 2002 he enrolled at Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington (USA) where, in 2005 he obtained the Bachelor's degree with Professor Nelli Shkolnikova. That same year Iván proceeded his studies in Berlin under Professor Uwe-Martin Haiberg. In 2007 he began his graduate studies at the Leipzig Conservatory with Professor Mariana Sirbu, where in 2009 he gained his Diplom with honor distinctions. A year later he completed his Master's degree at the Conservatory “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig.
He was taught and instructed by teachers such as Mark Kaplan, Henrik Hochschild, Yuval Gotlivobich and Ik Hwan Bae, and received masterclasses by Ilan Gronich, Stephan Picard, Michael Vogler, Tatjana Masurenko, Sylvie Gazeau and Kolja Lessing.
During his studies in Germany, he gave recitals and concerts in the Chamber Music and Great Concert Hall of Leipzig's Conservatory, at Schumann-Haus (Leipzig), Kongresscenter in Böhlen, Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaft (Berlin) and Ludwigsburg's festival.
As a soloist he performed with the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra Beethoven's Violin Concert and Mozart's Violin Concerto in A Mayor with the Orquesta Metropolitana of Lissabon in Portugal.
Additionally, he is intensively dedicated to chamber music, performing in various formations (Duos for violin and piano, trio and quintet) and as first violin in “Grassi's Quartet”. He gave many recitals in Germany and was instructed by Professors Gunhild Brandt, Hanns-Martin Schreiber, Ulrich Urban, Peter Bruns and Phillip Moll. He has participated in numerous Chamber Music concerts organized by the Spanish Radio Television Orchestra and recorded many recitals for Spanish National Classic Radio and television (TVE2).
As an orchestra performer, he was first violinist at Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, Cadaqués Orchestra, concertmaster of the Hochschulsinfonieorchester in Leipzig and first violinist at the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, with which he performed in famous Concert Halls such as Berliner Philharmonie, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Hamburg Laeiszhalle or in Festpielhaus Baden-Baden under the Baton of Sir Roger Norrington or Vladimir Ashkenazy.
In 2007 he obtained the first prize at the V International Competition "Violines por la Paz", and in 2008 he won the “Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales”. In 2011 he was finalist at the international competition "Jovens Violinistas" in Lissabon. Iván was holder of scholarships from the state Madrid, Indiana University School of Music, “Juventudes Musicales de Madrid” and “Alexander von Humboldt”-Foundation. He has given recitals in the United States, Portugal, Spain and Germany.
Ivan is also a PhD in Music Pedagogy at the National University of Distance (UNED), where he obtained "summa cum laude" with his thesis "The influence of the French and German violin schools in the violin work of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy".
Since 2010 he is violinist of the Spanish Radio Television Symphony Orchestra (OSRTVE), where he currently holds a position in the First Violins section.
He keeps a very active teaching activity, in such music schools as the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid or since 2017 in the Superior Music School "Progreso Musical" in Madrid.

INVESTIGATION


Besides his work in the area of interpretation and pedagogy, Iván López dedicates himself to research and investigation in music pedagogy, new technologies in music, and stylistic, historic and comparative analysis of XIXth century music for violin.
